The Second Niger bridge had been a major project talked about by Nigerians especially those from the eastern part of the country, it's a Nigerian Federal Government project that is 1.6 kilometres long and furnished with other ancillary infrastructure including a 10.3 kilometres highway, Owerri interchange and a toll station all at Obosi city in Anambra state, expected to be completed in the year 2022.
The project which was commissioned during President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan administration was during continued by the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The first Niger bridge had long served its purpose and have been closed down for repair severally. Owing to the increase in commuters movement across the borders of Anambra and Delta state, the need for a second Niger bridge was needed.
The Niger bridge serves as an entry point between Western Nigeria to the Eastern Nigeria state. The bridge has been a major link between the movement of goods and services between the two regions.
Over the years, the bridge has served as a political tool Presidential aspirants had used to lure the votes of the Igbo's. The region is known for its industrialisation charisma and business acumen.
The construction of the 2nd Niger bridge is been handled by Julius Berger, the construction company that handles many of the major government projects across the nation and is currently the best in the country.
Those who transit across Anambra state through Onitsha would have seen the massive work been carried out with usually causes traffic jams around Onitsha sometimes.
Below are some of the recent photos from the construction of the 2nd Niger bridge:
The Federal government of Nigeria led by President Muhammadu Buhari is working very hard to complete this massive project as the mind of most Igbo's is divided due to what they term marginalisation from the federal character and appointment in major sectors of the nation.
This bridge will aid the free flow of goods and services and reduce the workload on the first Niger bridge. With the presence of the Onitsha international market in Anambra state and the construction of an international airport in the state, good things and opportunities are soon going to flood the indigene of the state and other neighbouring states.
While the Eastern part of Nigeria is plagued with the activities of unknown gunmen, the presence of government projects around the region will aid calm the cry and drums of agitation.
See how pictures from the work at the sites;
The bridge will sure bring the desired result it was intended for both politically and economically by the time it is fully completed come 2022.
Anambra state is currently preparing for its governorship election and aspirants will be looking for points to lure voters to themselves, long before now the bridge would have been used as a bargaining point but it is rather late.
