How two men posed as staff of revenue agency and defrauded intending Hajj pilgrims

Two men who defrauded some intending Hajj pilgrims by posing as staff members of the internally revenue agency in Gombe State have been arrested by men of the state police command after carrying out the act at the Hajj camp, the state police command announced on Friday.

The two men, whose names were given as Habu Muhammad Kabir and Ilya Amos, were said to have been arrested by men of the Gombe Divisional Police headquarters after a case of impersonation and forgery was reported at the station.

It was gathered that a staff member of the Gombe State Internal Revenue Service lodged the report following information the agency got from some of the intending pilgrims about how the men were collecting money from them.

The two men were said to have gone to the Hajj Orientation Camp inside the Government Arabic Teachers College in Gombe and presented themselves as staff of the agency, while also collecting various amounts of money from the intending pilgrims.

Upon receipt of the complaint, detectives swung into action and succeeded in arresting Kabir first who was said to have confessed carrying out the act by forging the agency's identity cards, receipt and stamp.

His confession led to the arrest of Amos who he said was the person that printed the fake identity card as well as the fake receipt which they issued to the unsuspecting intending pilgrims.

According to a statement by the state police command through its Public Relations Officer, Maheed Muazu and posted on the Twitter handle of the command on Friday, at the time of their arrest, items recovered from them included two laptops, one printer, one stamp and its pad, a forged identity card, forged receipt and the sum of N30,000.

The statement added that they had given more useful information to the police and they are expected to be charged to court at the conclusion of the investigation.
