Hon. Maitala died on Sunday in a ghastly motor accident along Abuja-Jos road, sources say.
The Rep member was on his way to Jos for his son's wedding on Saturday, it was gathered.
No details have been released about the cause of the accident. Efforts to reach family sources and officials proved abortive as of publishing time.
However, multiple sources close to the parliamentarian have confirmed the incident.
Maitala had barely spent 21 months in office when he died.
He was nearly recalled last year following series of protests by constituents. Proponents of the recall process claimed he was performing below expectation. But the Rep member dishes out N10,000 each to 1000 constituents as soft loan before year-end.
His death may have opened room for tougher tussles both within and outside his ruling All Progressives Congress party.
There were questions on the legitimacy of his election last year.
