A motorist sustained serious injuries in the early hours of Monday, February 15 when his Mercedes Benz SUV crashed under a stationary trailer carrying two containers in Lagos State.
The incident happened around 6:30 a.m. at Cement inward Dopemu along the Lagos Abeokuta Expressway when the white 4Matic Mercedes Benz SUV with an unknown registration number which was on top speed lost control and crashed under the trailer carrying containers which apparently broke down overnight.
It was gathered that the driver of the vehicle, who apparently was going to his work place and was not aware that the trailer was parked, ran into the trailer, with his Mercedes Benz's front parts destroyed in the process.
The incident was announced by the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) which raced to the scene after it got a distress call and made emergency efforts to take the man who was alone in the vehicle to the hospital.
According to the report by the agency on its social media platforms, when the officials of the agency arrived the scene, the driver of the trailer was said to have absconded while as of the time of this report, both the trailer and the SUV have been taken off the road and subsequently handed over to the policemen from Alabo Police Station.
According to a statement by LASEMA which it posted on its Twitter handle @followlasema: "Upon the arrival of our officials at a road accident scene at Cement inward Dopemu along Lagos Abeokuta Expressway in the early hours of today, February 15, 2021, a white 4Matic Mercedes Benz Jeep with an unknown registration number was seen to have run under a trailer carrying two containers.
"Investigations revealed that the driver of the 4Matic Mercedes Benz Jeep lost control and rammed into the trailer. Fortunately, there was no life lost.
"However, the driver of the Jeep, an adult male, sustained serious injuries and was rescued and taken to a hospital. The driver of the truck was said to have absconded before we arrived there.
"The agency's heavy duty equipment were used to recover the articulated vehicle and SUV off the road to a layby and subsequently handed over to the policemen from Alabo Police Station.
"Traffic movement along the axis has been restored."
