Covid-19: FG Announces New Restrictions On Churches, Mosques Nationwide

Barely a week after the FG barred travellers from the three countries, India, Brazil and Turkey, from entering Nigeria following increased death toll caused by COVID-19 pandemic, the FG has taken further action on restriction on gatherings of religious groups, weddings among others.

According to Punchng, Mukhtar Mohammed, the National Incident Manager, made this known disclosed this at the Presidential Steering Committee on COVID-19 in Abuja on Monday.

Mohammed said gatherings of religious groups and weddings among others have been reduced to 50 percent attendance, while official engagements, meetings, and conferences should continue to hold virtually.

Speaking further, the incident manager added that from Tuesday, night clubs, gyms, and others would also remain closed indefinitely.

Other measures taken by the FG is the re-introduction of nationwide curfew, from 12:00am to 4:00am in a bid to curb further spread of the deadly virus.

Worthy of note is that in the past few weeks, the country has continued to witness a decline in the Covid-19 cases being recorded, but there are fears that the surge being experienced in other countries like India in particular could spread to the country if preventive measures are not taken immediately.

On Sunday, the nation had 37 new cases of the infection.

Consequently, many Nigerians have continued to express divergent opinions on the new policy, with many saying there was absolutely no need for the new measures, while others argued it was the best decision.

But in your thoughts, do you think this new policy or restriction is needed ?
