Police Brutality: They entered my house, gave me a beating, and took $5,000 from my wardrobe—Fatai

It has been confirmed by Punch News that a business man, Fatai Sowunmi, has accused some police officers of the Bureau Special Tactical Squad, Abuja, of stealing $5,000 from him.

His brother, whose name was Ibrahim, also claimed that the policemen stole his automated teller machine card and withdrew N1.3m from his bank account.

According to one of his statements, Fatai Sowunmi said that "I was at home last Friday with my wife and younger brother who was on a visit when the police officers stormed my house accusing me of being a kidnapper."

I confronted them, saying what they were doing was unlawful, but they gave me a serious beating in return.

They searched my wardrobe, took $5,000 and also stole my phone.

His brother also confirmed the incident, saying that “at Command Road, they took my brother’s ATM card and withdrew N1.3m from his account; they threatened us that if we ever reported the matter, they would kill us.”

The family's attorney, Todimu Ige, claimed to have petitioned Usman Baba, the inspector general of police, and Abiodun Alabi, the commissioner of police for the state of Lagos.
