Fire services C.G. encourages Nigerians to be volunteer firefighters

A call has gone out to Nigerians to volunteer as volunteer firefighters in order to combat the growing fire threat in the country, says Liman Ibrahim, Controller General of the Federal Fire Service.

At the commissioning of a modern firefighting truck and two ambulances in Zaria, Kaduna State, Ibrahim made this statement.

The FFS recently received 20 life support ambulances and seven fire fighting trucks, which included the fire truck and ambulances that were deployed.

According to the CG, if individuals on the ground at fire scenes attended to the fire before the arrival of firefighting crews, the excesses of the fire threat would be reduced.

According to him, “Nigerians should be auxiliary firefighters, just as they are in industrialized nations, because it will assist to lessen the impact on us as well as the number of fire outbreaks.”

The author claims that "in affluent countries, when a fire department employs 50 people, only 20 of them are on government payroll, with the remaining 30 being volunteers."

Before the firefighters arrive, they have already begun to take action to ensure that the fire does not spread but rather is contained to its source and brought under control.

“Control is critical in firefighting, yet many people are unaware of what we are talking about when we say we are controlling fire.

“When property C is on fire, we must prioritize the protection of properties B and D, which means we place greater emphasis on the properties that are not on fire.
