Gombe records 377 motorbike crashes in one year – FRSC

According to the Federal Road Safety Corps in Gombe State, 377 motorcycle accidents occurred between January and December of 2022. In an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria at the Corps Headquarters in the hamlet of Lafiyawo in the state's Akko Local Government Area, FRSC Sector Commander Mr. Felix Theman made this statement.

According to statistics from the Corps, underage riders on motorbikes and tricycles were involved in 377 recorded road crashes, notably in the Gombe metropolis.

Theman asserts that it is unlawful for anyone under the age of 18 to ride a motorcycle and that "we have made efforts to solve that difficulty." The Sector Commander added that personnel of the Corps had ramped up enforcement to handle underage motorcycle riding and ensure safety on the road. “We increased our response to road traffic offences by enforcing mobile courts sitting in collaboration with the state judiciary.

We made a lot of arrests through the sitting, especially during Operation Zero between December 2022 and January 2023 to act as a deterrent. In order to raise awareness about the risks associated with allowing children to ride motorbikes and tricycles, we have started a campaign aimed at parents and other relevant groups. To address the recent spike in underage motorcycling in the state, the man said that arrests were being made.

So, he cautioned guardians and parents to keep an eye on their children to prevent them from engaging in such traffic infractions that could result in collisions.
