Police reveals how gunmen destroyed properties, killed 18 worshipers & abducted 7 others in Niger

It's no longer news that some unknown gunmen believed to be bandits, invaded Maza-Kuka in the Mashegu local government council of Niger State, killed no fewer than 18 persons who were observing early morning prayers at a Mosque in Mazakuka village.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Monday Kuryas, who confirmed the incident disclosed that, the gunmen reportedly arrived on motorcycles and went straight into the mosque shooting sporadically resulting in the death of residents, they also abducted seven other worshipers at the mosque and destroyed property worth millions of naira belonging to Abubakar Maigandus in the village. He added that, the security personnel, however, shot dead one of the bandits.

CP. Kuryas who disclosed this to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Minna on Monday, said, the incident was understood to be a reprisal attack resulting from a long standing communal feud, but the state police command had already deployed additional armed security personnel to the area to ensure the arrest of the gunmen and all other miscreants undermining the peaceful coexistence among residents.

He however, urged the residents, especially those in the rural areas of the state, to come forward with reliable information that could aid the security personnel to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all those involved in criminal acts.

This is a developing story, as more information is made available, this article will be updated.
