A fuel tanker fell and flooded its contents in Adamawa State Capital, Yola, on Monday morning. This resulted in a fire outbreak which destroyed houses, shops in the neighborhood.
The explosion caused a great traffic halt at the busy Mai Doki Roundabout in Jimeta, Yola, where the incident happened.
Observers said the fully-loaded petrol tanker fell on its side, flooding the area with petrol, resulting in what people portrayed as a ‘massive inferno’ around 7am on Monday.
Witnesses said the firefighters from the state fire service with the help of other organizations from the state was able to handle the massive fire because they came to the scene at the right time and were well prepared.
The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and the Police division officers also had to appear at the scene to resuscitate public order and control traffic flow.
They managed the traffic as vehicles were moving by one side of the roundabout as the burnt petrol tanker still covered the other end of the road.
