A masquerade has escaped death by the whisker in a road traffic accident that occurred at Awkuzu Junction in Oyi Local Government Area of Anambra State on Friday, the 19th of May, 2023.
According to reports, the accident between a BAU Cement Truck and a Santa/KC Motorcycle which involved four adult males and the Izaga Masquerade happened at the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway. One of the adult males died in the tragic incident.
An eyewitness narrated that the masquerade almost got killed in the accident. It was on a motorcycle with another man behind it. The motorcyclist tried to overtake a truck, but the masquerade legs, which were long, hit the truck.
This caused the other passenger on the same motorcycle as the masquerade to fall off. He fell and got crushed to death by the back tire of the moving truck.
Confirming the incident, Adeoye Irelewuyi, who is the Anambra Sector Commander, Federal Road Safety Corps, Corps Commander linked the cause of the accident to load violation, noting that one of the four male adults involved in the crash lost his life.
He also stated that one other male was injured while the other two were rescued unhurt.
“The FRSC rescue team from RS5.33 Nteje Anambra State rushed the victim to Chira Hospital, Akwuzu where one male adult was confirmed dead; and his corpse was deposited at the wisdom mortuary.”
