OPINION: Suspects Released By Gunmen Who Recently Attacked A Police Station In Ebonyi Should Return

According to a report reaching us from various sources, the 135 Divisional Police Headquarters in Ohaukwu, Ebonyi State was attacked on Sunday night, and suspects were freed.

An eyewitness who spoke with correspondents of OAK METRO said that the gunmen fired sporadically before releasing the detained suspects.

It was also gathered that the gunmen set some vehicles ablaze, including a police van, after the policemen on duty were forced to leave their duty post due to heavy gunshots from the armed men.

The people who were released from the station should return as they're still suspects and not criminals. The law states that every suspect is innocent until proven guilty in court.

The suspects won't be prosecuted for running away if they return. However, if they're traced and re-arrested by the police, their charges might increase.

Apart from returning to clear their names, anyone who doesn't return might be seen as a member of the gunmen who attacked the station.
