Punch Newspaper reported that three suspects were arrested in connection with the recent kidnapping of lecturers of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
According to the police, the gang were responsible for the abduction of six people including some lecturers in the university.
The suspects confessed to have been engaged by a former chief security officer of the University who is still in the run.
In their confessional statements, one of the suspects, Isah Yakubu disclosed that they were contacted by a former chief security officer of the University through one Arbo Bello to cause insecurity in institution.
Yakubu revealed that it was after they held a meeting with the former CSO who instructed them to ensure the university becomes ungovernable for the current Vice Chancellor since he is not willing to work with them.
Hear him: the former CSO and Bello told us that they wanted us to cause insecurity in the university" the suspect revealed.
He continued " They wanted insecurity in the school so that the new VC would not succeed." he said.
He went further to confessed that they have been given all the assurance that none of them will be caught and nothing will happen.
“They told us nothing would happen if we carried out kidnapping in the school" he said.
He stated further that in each of the Operation, his share of the ransom ranges from 16,000 to 30,000 naira.
