Hannatu Bawa, a female councilor in Plateau State who was kidnapped by gunmen on Tuesday, has escaped.
The female councillor who represents Kabwir-Fadar ward in Kanke Local Government Area of the state was kidnapped at her home in the community, according to reports.
It was learned that after Bawa was kidnapped, her kidnappers took her to neighboring Bauchi State, where she miraculously escaped after spending about four days in their custody.
Moses Bap, a Kanke LGA resident, confirmed the female councillor's rescue from kidnappers in Jos on Saturday. Bap, on the other hand, stated that she was taken to a hospital and is currently receiving treatment.
"I can confirm to you that our councillor has regained her freedom," Bap said. According to what I've heard, she escaped from her kidnappers in Bauchi state's Das Area, where she crept through the bushes until she arrived in the Bauchi state town of Boi. She then called Kanke LGA Chairman Henry Gotip, who dispatched police and other security personnel to rescue her. She is currently in a hospital receiving treatment for the trauma she suffered while in the hands of those kidnappers.
When contacted, Alabo Alfred, spokesman for the Plateau State Police Command, said he had yet to receive information on how the female councilor escaped.
"I will get informed when I get the report of how she was rescued." As important as the news of her rescue is, the PPRO said, "We are currently monitoring the ongoing election to ensure that there is no security breach in any part of the state."
