UEFA Champions League

Chelsea Won The UCL Trophy The Last Time They Eliminated Real Madrid From The Competition

For the third consecutive UEFA Champions League season, Chelsea and Real Madrid will be facing each other in the knockout rounds of the European tournament. In the 2020/21 Season, the two sides faced each other in the Semifinals of the UEFA Champions League at Stamford Bridge in London and at Alfredo Di Stefano Stadium in Spain.

Last season, Chelsea and Real Madrid met again in the knockout rounds of the UEFA Champions League during the Quarterfinals in London and in Spain.

This season, Chelsea and Real Madrid will face again in the Quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League and it's arguably the second toughest encounter in the Quarterfinals this season, behind Manchester City and Bayern Munich's clash.

Obviously, Chelsea will head into the game against Real Madrid as the underdogs, like they have always been in their last encounters in 2021 and 2022 but, it's not entirely an impossible task for Chelsea to beat Real Madrid.

Matter of fact, the last time that Chelsea eliminated Real Madrid from the UEFA Champions League, they later won the European tournament that season.

In the 2020/21 Season under Thomas Tuchel, Chelsea faced Real Madrid in the Semifinals of the UEFA Champions League. The West London club held them to a draw in the first leg before thrashing them by 2-0 in the second leg, to qualify for the Final with an aggregate of 3-1.

They later defeated Manchester City in Porto that season to lift the UEFA Champions League trophy.

There's not much assurance that Chelsea can win the UEFA Champions League this season. Getting Real Madrid in the Quarterfinals is certainly not going to make it any easier but, it will be a major boost if Chelsea beat Real Madrid to proceed to the next round of the tournament.
