So far, we might have heard much about certain Nigerian footballers, young talents, top soccer players, and so on, yet we don’t recall much about famous dead soccer players some of whom even experienced a tragic death.
This post is dedicated to the loving memory of Olufemi Olubayo.
Everyone dies one day, but this particular one is something to remember.
The death of Nigerian star, Olufemi Olubayo, was shocking news to the football world on April 18, 2011. Before his death, he had played for the Super Eagles in 5 matches.
Olubayo died in a car accident while driving on Egnatia Odos, near the city of Kavala, Greece. He was on his way to Nigeria in order to finalise details of his wedding.
He also defended the colours of Bendel Insurance, Delta Force, Hapoel Jerusalem, Hapoel Tel Aviv, Hakoah Ramat Gan, Hapoel Bnei Lod, Rapid Bucureşti, SC Rheindorf Altach, Boulogne and Skoda Xanthi.
Before, he died at the age of 25 the defender played for Nigeria at U20 and U23 level.
As the world remember Olufemi Olubayo, some throwback pictures of him with the likes of Diego Maradona, Lionel Messi and Ronaldinho were spotted online.
