Southgate's England Squad Selection Should Serve As An Eye Opener To Lukaku About His Jersey Number

The international break is here again and club football will be put on hold for the next two weeks. Most players will have to represent their country in their different national teams even though not all the players will be called up. The truth of the matter is that most players that are being called up by their national team, were called based on their performances in their club respective clubs.

Chelsea's former striker, Tammy Abraham was among the new additions to England squad after the striker was not included in the squad that participated in the Euro 2020. The last time Tammy featured for England was in November 2020. Tammy was among Lampard's key players and as soon as Tuchel took over, he lost his starting position to Timo Werner. Tammy Abraham struggled for first team shirt under Tuchel and this eventually led to his departure to Roma.

The truth of the matter is that Jose Mourinho has done a great job in turning Abraham into a brand new player. The striker now has 4 goals in his last seven games for Roma this season. After putting up such a brilliant performance for Roma, the striker recently got a surprise call-up from Southgate for England's october fixtures.

Romelu Lukaku did not fail to announce his presence in his first game against Arsenal as he barged in his first goal and also put up an impressive performance. However, the belgian striker have now struggled to get on the score sheet in his last five games for Chelsea. Even Timo Werner have now netted his second goal of the season.

Be it as it may, a lot of people have begun to link Lukaku's recent performance to his shirt number. Chelsea fans generally believe that Chelsea's number 9 jersey is cursed and Tammy Abraham's recent progress since he dropped the shirt number should be an eye opener for Lukaku.
