Playing Five(5) Big Teams In Less Than 36 days Could See Man United Drop Out Of The Top 5.

Manchester United was thrashed by Leicester City yesterday, Saturday 16 October 2021 in matchday eight of the 2021/2022 Premier League season despite taking an early lead in the game through a brilliant goal from academy graduate Mason Greenwood.

Leicester however came back into the game through Youri Tielemans perfect cross that found its way into the top corner of the net thirteen minutes later before talisman Jamie Vardy Soyuncu, and a new signing Daka completed the win for Brendan Rodgers in front of the home crowd.

This is Manchester United's second defeat in the Premier League and fourth in all competitions after been knocked out of the Carabao Cup by West Ham United. Losing to a half-strong side like Leicester City and Aston Villa questions Man United's resilience when they come up against strong sides like Pep Guardiola's Manchester City, Liverpool, and Chelsea.

Today, we shall look at Manchester United's next five English Premier League fixtures to ascertain their chances of sticking around the top six spots after these matches. It is worthy of note that there are Champions League fixtures in between these Premier League matches. The teams' to be played by the Old Trafford side include:

1. Liverpool ( 24th October 2021)

Liverpool is one of the highest-scoring sides in the Premier League this season with an average of 2.75% goals per match, scored twenty-two (22) goals, and conceded just six(6) in the process. They are the only side yet to be beaten in the league with three wins and two draws in their last five fixtures.

They will cause serious problems to a weak Manchester United side when they pay a visit to Old Trafford and also considering United's poor defensive record, Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane will score goals for fun. Both players have reached 100 EPL goals this season and are few goals away from surpassing Drogba as the all-time African top scorers in the EPL.

Manchester United has won just one game out of their last ten(10) meetings against Liverpool. The Reds are currently in the second position on the EPL table and such, defeating them is almost impossible.

Prediction: Manchester United to Lose

2. Tottenham Hotspur (30th October 2021)

Tottenham Hotspur might seem like an easy fixture at the moment judging by their poor performances lately but history has it that whenever they come up against Manchester United, the game usually goes, either way, irrespective of form.

A notable example came in their 6-1 demolition of Manchester United at Old Trafford in 2020 which was an unexpected scoreline. It was a humiliating defeat to the home fans, management, and players of the club.

However, Tottenham has only managed two wins in their last five fixtures, conceding ten goals and scoring only six goals so far in the league. Manchester United could come out victorious in this fixture although playing at the Tottenham Stadium could prove a tough task.

Prediction: Draw or Win to Manchester United

3. Manchester City ( 6th November 2021)

Manchester City is currently one of the strongest favorites to retain the EPL title in this 2021/2022 Premier League season. The team has been solid from the defense down to the attack producing some fine displays in the process. They have scored sixteen (16) goals and conceded just three so far this season. They have picked up three wins and two draws from their last five Fixtures.

They will surely be at their best when they come up against their fiercest rivals in the other half of Manchester. Manchester United has a history of defeating them at the Etihad but repeating such feat against a more organized and compact City team will require some sort of magic if it does exist in football.

Need I remind you that they have scored an average of 2.00% goal per match this season and with a rotational squad from Pep Guardiola, one can hardly fathom the best possible ways to stop the team's ruthlessness. Defeating Manchester United in front of the Sky blue fans won't come as a surprise to many but an upset by United will amaze the neutral fans.

Prediction: Manchester United to Lose

4. Chelsea ( 28th October 2021)

Chelsea will be visiting Manchester United on the said date in another blockbuster fixture with many bookmakers and pundits tipping Chelsea to win the domestic league ahead of other strong contenders. Cristiano Ronaldo has an unfair advantage in this fixture as he is yet to score an EPL goal against the team.

Chelsea is currently top of the EPL table with 19 points from the eight matches played so far this season. They have recorded four wins from their last five fixtures, scored 16 goals, and conceded just three in the process. They also hold an incredible away record of 75% win ratio which is the highest in the league.

Looking also at Chelsea's style of play under Thomas Tuchel, one could say that the team is a hard nut to crack especially when he deploys the 3-4-3 formation. They are one of the few teams across Europe with few goals conceded across all competitions.

Prediction: Manchester United to Lose

5. Arsenal ( 30th November 2021)

This is another fixture that would have gone in Manchester United's favor if it was in August when Arsenal suffered consecutive defeats against Brentford, Manchester City, and Chelsea. They have since then bounced back to winning ways with three straight wins and a draw in the process.

Arsenal is currently four points behind Manchester United in the EPL table with a game in hand against Crystal Palace on Monday. They have conceded ten(10) goals since the start of the season but a win on Monday will see them climb to the 6th position.

It is noteworthy that Manchester United are without a win against Arsenal in the Premier League for more than two years now and such, defeating them could be a huge task. Cristiano Ronaldo could make the difference In the fixture considering his goalscoring statistics against Arsenal.

Prediction: Arsenal or Manchester United win

From my above analysis, it can be deduced that the maximum points Manchester United could get from these tough fixtures is five and that could come against Arsenal & Tottenham.

They are currently in the fifth position behind Brighton and therefore, losing 9-11 points out of 15 in five consecutive fixtures will no doubt relegate Manchester United to the number six position in the EPL table.
