Bruno Fernandes (full name: Bruno Miguel Borges Fernandes) of Manchester United is one of the best midfielders in the English top flight. The Portugal international has completed 21 crosses in the ongoing FA Cup ahead of the quarter final clash with Fulham on March 19, 2023. This is among the highest values in the competition. In fact, only two players have attempted more crosses in the current edition than the Portuguese midfielder. Who are these footballers?
The player with the highest number of crosses in the competition so far is Sam Greenwood. This English midfielder made thirty cross-outs in his 3 appearances in the competition. Sam, who happens to be the youngest among the best 20 players in this category, did it for Leeds United. He had his best day during the FA Cup third round game with Cardiff City. The former England U-20 crossed out the ball fifteen times in the game as the Peacocks drew 2-2. During the replay, he did it 12 times. When started against Accrington Stanley in the fourth round, he made 5 cross-outs. He was not included in the squad for the next round against Fulham and Leeds lost 2-0 to the London club.
The only other player that has more crosses than Fernandes is Myles Weston. In contrast to Greenwood, this winger is the oldest among the top twenty players in this category. The 35-year-old footballer made 28 crosses in three FA Cup games for Dagenham & Redbridge. He got 19 during the third round match with Gillingham and had 9 when his side faced the same club in the replay.
With 21 crosses, Fernandes is joint third with Andreas Pereira of Fulham. Interestingly, both of them are set for a showdown on Sunday. The Man United captain had 12 crosses in the fifth round clash with West Ham. The Red Devils star will hope for a great game against the Lilywhites at Old Trafford.
