Ole Gunnar Solskjaer Could Unveil New Formation After The Arrival Of Cristiano Ronaldo

Manchester United announced that they have signed Cristiano Ronaldo from Juventus on Friday. While this is good news, it will pose a big problem to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer as he will have to consider changing his preferred 4-2-3-1 formation to accommodate Ronaldo.

Since joining Manchester United, Solskjaer has favoured the 4-2-3-1 formation which offers more security with the double pivot midfield. The Norwegian tactician has been criticized for the withdrawn approach of the formation and he could finally switch to a 4-3-3 formation.

Manchester United signed Raphaël Varane earlier in the transfer window and the pace the World Cup winner offers alongside Harry Maguire could be enough to persuade Ole Gunnar Solskjaer to consider using the 4-3-3 formation.

Furthermore, Manchester United has now got a collection of elite attackers and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has to find a way of utilising them to the fullest. The likes of Paul Pogba, Jason Sancho, Anthony Martial, Marcus Rashford, Donny Van de Beek, Edinson Cavani, Bruno Fernandes, and the returning Cristiano Ronaldo have given Ole Gunnar Solskjaer more options upfront.

If David De Gea continues putting in performances like the one he put in against Wolves, there is no reason why he can't be Manchester United's no. 1, Aaron Wan-Bissaka will be used as the right-back, Harry Maguire and Raphaël Varane as the centre-backs, and Luke Shaw on the left of defense in a back four. Donny Van de Beek, McTominay, Fred, or Matic, Paul Pogba, and Bruno Fernandes in a midfield three. And Jadon Sancho, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Mason Greenwood on the left, centre, and right of attack respectively in a front three.

This formation will give Paul Pogba the freedom to contribute more in attack and with the French star having 5 assists in the English Premier League already, he would likely hit double figures in no time. Jason Sancho and Mason Greenwood flanking Cristiano Ronaldo will help him get the services he needs to thrive.

Should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer switch to a more proactive 4-3-3 formation? Make your thoughts known below.
