In 1975, Manchester United Goalkeeper Alex Stepney Dislocated His Jaw While Instructing His Players

In 1975, a league match between Manchester United and Birmingham City resulted in Alex Stepney, the goalkeeper for Manchester United, dislocating his jaw while yelling orders to his teammates. This publication can be found in Daily Star

On the other side, the injury he sustained might have been the result of a collision he had earlier in the game with a player from Birmingham.

The following is what Stepney says:

"I just yelled for the ball when my jaw clicked, leaving me in excruciating pain," she said. It was completely absurd. When Bob Hatton knocked me out of the game so early on, it must have been then that the harm was already done.

His position in goal was taken over for the remainder of the match by the center defender Brian Greenhoff, and Manchester United went on to win 2-0.
