He made his debut for on 13 January 2001, against Zambia and went on represent the country in major tournaments.
Okoronkwo played in the 2002 and 2004 African Cup of Nations and hoed the finish third both occassions and was also member of the the Olympic Games in 2000 that got eliminated at the quarter final stage.
Okoronkwo also featured at the 2002 World Cup campaign and played all the group game for the Super Eagles , where they failed to progress beyond the group stage.
Okoronkwo has since retired from the football, but before he called it quite with the round leather game, he played for Julius Berger on Nigeria, Rayyan in Qatar before coming back home, to play for Iwuanyanwu Nationale ( Heartland FC).
He then moved out of the league again and joined Moldovan club Sheriff Tiraspol for two seasons, but his big break came in year 2000 after he signed for Shakhtar Donetsk in the Ukraine.
With Shakhtar he won most of career titles, including the Ukrainian league, Cup and played in the prestigious UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa league.
He then left the club in 2003, then signed a one-year deal with newly promoted Premier League side Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Okoronkwo's time in England turned out to a nightmare as he was unable to break into the team until the closing months of the season, after the club had been relegated.
He was one of the players who were blamed for the situation and was subsequently released by the club and eventually moved to play in Russia with Alania Vladikavkaz.
Okoronkwo faced another problem at the club, he struggled for game time, with many people calling on him to resign from the game.
Okoronkwo was subsequently excluded from all Super Eagles matches as he battle to regain his confidence, shortly after his situation improved, the club eventually fold up due to financial problems in 2005.
However the little form he showed before the club went into administration convinced FC Moscow to sign him and he soon becoming an important member of the starting line-up at his new club. That season he was voted the club's player of the season.
He later spent three seasons with the club, he later moved on with his career and joined Rostov where he also played for few years and retired.
After from finishing his career well in Russia, Okoronkwo also find a wife in Russia.
He got married to a beautiful Russian lady who is a daughter of the country's billionaire.
His wife runs one of the faction outlets in Russian capital Moscow.
