6th Place Is The Highest Position Arsenal May Attain This Season

Going by Arsenal's recent performance, and also comparing Arsenal's transfer signings to that of other big teams in the Premier League, one can only predict that trusting the process can only lead them to 6th place finish this season.

Before the start of the season, the club talked about starting a new era which involves rebuilding the club with Mikel Arteta in charge. The rebuilding process came with the plan of recruiting young quality players, who will play together and serve the club for a long period of time. Everyone knew that building a club around young and inexperienced players will surely come at a cost. It will take time for the excellent results to come, but in the long run, it will be beneficial.

Upon hearing the plan of the club, I predicted before the season started that 6th was Arsenal's most likely finishing position. The first three games of the season didn't go exactly as I expected, as I knew they will lose to Manchester City and Chelsea, but I expected them to win against Brentford. Those three disappointing games followed up with four consecutive wins, which shows showed promise.

The 0-0 draw against Brighton came as a reality check to some fans, who got carried away by the four consecutive victories. The reality is that Arsenal's results are intrinsically linked to who they are playing and where they are playing. They will get more points against fringe teams, but may struggle against the big boys. Brighton away had a draw written all over it more especially as it rained the whole match.

Given the fixture list, 6th position may be reached by May next year. They will surely beat Brighton in the return, as we will also beat Brentford and Burnley at home in the second round. Home wins against Crystal Palace and Villa are obvious, while Leicester will be tough to take any points. Also, home wins versus Watford and Newcastle will be balanced out by losses to Liverpool and Manchester United.

It's not rocket science in my opinion, as 6th place in May will be great, but not unexpected in May at the half way stage of the process.
