Philip O'Donnell was a Scottish professional footballer who played as a midfielder for Motherwell, Celtic and Sheffield Wednesday. He also earned one international cap for Scotland, and twice won the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year award.
Phil O'Donnell, the 35-year old Motherwell captain who collapsed as he was being substituted during his side's win over Dundee United last Saturday, died of heart failure on the 29th of Dec, a post-mortem examination has confirmed. Jan 2008.
. Miklos Feher 1979-2004
Miklós "Miki" Fehér was a Hungarian professional footballer who played as a striker. He spent most of his nine-year career in Portugal, representing four clubs and amassing Primeira Liga totals of 80 games and 27 goals.
Sadly, Fehér’s death was confirmed approximately 3 hours later, the cause of death being cardiac arrhythmia brought on by hypertrophic cardiomyopathy (a disease of a muscle within the heart). It is well known as a leading cause for cardiac arrests in young athletes like Marc Foe, and it usually asymptomatic.
Benfica’s next few games were understandably postponed, and the club retired the number 29 shirt, which Fehér wore, as a sign of respect. The following season, after Benfica secured the title, Miklós’ parents were presented with a League Championship medal.
. Peter Biaksangzuala 1991-2014
Indian footballer Peter Biaksangzuala has died from the injuries he suffered as he landed awkwardly while celebrating a goal. The 23-year-old damaged his spinal cord doing a somersault after scoring an equaliser for Bethlehem Vengthlang FC against Chanmari West FC. Oct 20th 2014.
. Patrick Ekeng 1990-2016
Patrick Claude Ekeng Ekeng was a Cameroonian professional footballer who played as a defensive midfielder. He had two international caps for his country's national team, whom he represented at the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations.
Seven minutes after his entrance, with his team leading 3–2, he collapsed. He was transported and resuscitated at the hospital, and within two hours the medical staff confirmed that he had died. The cause of death was a suspected heart attack. He was 26 years old.
. Piermario Morosini 1986-2012
Piermario Morosini was an Italian professional footballer who last played as a midfielder for Livorno, on loan from Udinese. On 14 April 2012, during a match between Pescara and Livorno, Morosini suffered a fatal cardiac arrest on the pitch.
. Endurance Idahor 1984-2010
Endurance Idahor was a Nigerian professional football player who played for Sudanese club Al-Merreikh. On 6 March 2010, Idahor collapsed during a league game and later died on his way to the hospital.
. Cristiano Junior 1970-2004
Cristiano Sebastião de Lima Júnior was a Brazilian footballer who played as a forward for Dempo, before an on-field collision in the Federation Cup finals, with the goalkeeper of his opposing team led to his death on the 5th of December 2004.
