17 year-old Pablo Martín Gavira, broke a record that stood for 85 years, as he becomes the youngest player in Spain's history to play the national team, he is 222 days younger than the previous record holder, Angel Zubieta. The Barçelona youngster had an incredible debut against the European champions, he literally dominated a world class Italian midfield.
Gavi's debut was a display of courage, commitment and adaptation. He was not only running things around a world class Italian midfield, he was also very commanding. The teenager is very smooth in possession, which should not come as a surprise, from a top La Masia (Barçelona youth academy) graduate. He also showed an impressive defensive work, with an exciting blend of technique and tenacity.
The Barcelona starlet won a tonne of duels in the middle of the park, no player made more successful tackles in the first half of the game than him (3) and he also committed the most fouls (4). Against Italy, the teenager had 89% pass accuracy, made 68 touches, made 53 passes, conceded 7 fouls, made 4 tackles, completed 2 take-ons and won 1 foul.
