Club Club striker and Nigeria youth international, David Okereke, hopes his hard work pays off in his new jersey number 21, which he described as his lucky number.
The 22-year-old, who netted twice and assisted in one goal in his team's recent pre-season 6-0 whitewash of KV Mechelen, wore the number 14 shirt last season, his first with the Belgian First Division A campaigners. He has discarded that for number 21, which he described as his lucky number.
"We work hard now to be ready for the start of the league. We will get a reward for the hard work we put in today. That is my lucky number, so I am happy that I can wear that," stated Okereke, who scored 10 goals in 22 appearances for Brugge last season, following his transfer from Spezia after excelling on a season-long loan at Cosenza.
Okereke spent his youth career at Lavagnese and Spezia, signing his first professional contract with the latter and scoring 10 goals in 54 matches for their first team between 2016 and 2019.
He will be looking to make a flying start to his second season with Brugge, when they host Sporting Charleroi in a First Division A opening day's fixture on Saturday 8 July.
Okereke has been capped once by Nigeria at the U23 level, scoring on his debut in 2019.
