Manchester United's impressive 9:0 thrashing of Southampton equalled a Premier League record held by the Red Devils themselves.

The Old Trafford side were in top form against an injury ravaged Southampton side who saw a player sent off inside the opening two minutes.

It took a while for Wan-Bissaka to open the scoring from a Luke Shaw Cross but after then, the floodgates opened.

Rashford added a second some minutes later and by halftime, United were 4:0 up with a Own goal From Berdnarek and a Cavani header.

It just wasn't Southampton'night the moment Che Adams saw a goal disallowed and BOTH Martial and McTominay made the score 6:0 soon enough.

Bruno Fernandes scored the 7th from a penalty while Martial and Daniel James rounded off the score.

The 9:0 win is the joint highest win margin in Premier League history.

The record was previously tied between Man Utd and Leicester. Man Utd beat Ipswich Town 9:0 during the Sir Alex Ferguson era in the 90s while Leicester Beat Southampton 9:0 in 2019.

However, Man Utd’s 9:0 victories are the joint home win record while Leicester's win is the outright away record.

Southampton have now appeared on the receiving end of a 9:0 scoreline twice Man Utd have been in it twice.
