Super Eagles star Okechukwu Azubuike was impressive for Aykut Kocaman led Istanbul Basaksehir football club of Turkey on Tuesday night, as they defeated Erol Bulut led Fenerbahce FC 2-1 at Sukru Saracoglu Stadium in the Turkey Cup.
The former Nigeria under 23 captain was given a starting role by coach Aykut Kocaman, and he was able to impress, as he played a crucial part in his team's hard-fought 2-1 victory over the former Turkish Super Lig Champions.
Azubuike started in the Midfield alongside Junior Fernandes, Berkay Ozcan and Denic Turuc, and they were all fantastic for the visiting team, as they defeated their host 2-1 to end their winless run in all competitions.
The Turkish Super Lig Champions have been able to win a game since the 13th of January 2021, and their last victory was against Tuzlaspor FC, and since then they've lost 5 of their last 7 matches played, drew the remaining two.
Junior Fernandes opened scoring for the away team in the 42nd minutes, to end the first half 1-0.
Enner Valencia equalized for the home team in the 72nd minutes, through a fine teamwork from Nigerian Azubuike Okechukwu, before Fredrik Gulbrandsen scored the winning goal for the away team in the 96th minutes to end the match 2-1.
Azubuike Okechukwu was outstanding for the away team, and he lasted on the pitch for the whole 120th minutes, and he was also involved in one of the two goals scored by the Turkish Super Lig Champions.
The 2-1 victory over Fenerbahce FC has taken Istanbul Basaksehir to the next stage of the Turkey Cup.
