33 year-old Theophilus Afelokhai, is Nigeria Professional Football League highest paid goalkeeper, he earns ₦1.2 million monthly. Reports have it that, he joined the club at a record fee of N4m, after demanding a raise from his former club, Eyimba United (where he played for 5 years), but they refused to give in to request, which prompted him to join the Garden city side.
Afelokhai won the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), with Kano Pillars and Enyimba United, and he is looking to win it again with Rivers United. The Edo State born player started his career in the lower tier of the domestic league and has since gone ahead to become one of the best shot-stoppers in the league.
He was among the home based under-23 dream team that featured in 2011 Confederation of African Football (CAF) under-23 Championship and he was also among the home based team that featured in 2018 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
