UEFA Champions League

One Chelsea player that could have made a difference against Juventus

In case you missed Chelsea's Clash with Juventus on Wednesday evening, I can boldly tell you that you didn't miss anything spectacular. Matter of fact, the Match is one of the abysmal performance that Chelsea has shown so far in this campaign. The Blues were at Allianz Stadium on Wednesday evening in Turin to take on Juventus in their second group H Champions League clash.

The Biaconnerri were without their two leading marksmen Paulo Dybala and Alvaro Morata. Clearly, the match was already in Chelsea favour despite being the away team.

The Blues dominated the game. They were able to keep their hosts in check by dictating the tempo of the game but, one thing that has always being Chelsea problem since last season still reared it's ugly head on Wednesday evening.

The Blues were playing from the back and with their stronghold on the Midfield, they had Juventus caged in as the Italian giant were forced to play Defensive ball. They retreated into their half and Defended well inside their box.

Chelsea could have easily outwit Juventus in the game but the Blues lacked creativity. Hakim Ziyech and Kai Havertz whom were tasked with making the final passes didn't produce any moment of brilliance.

All Hakim Ziyech's crossings and shots were being deflected away after hitting Juventus' Defenders. It was so much that it became almost unbearable. Callum Hudson-Odoi, Ross Barkley and Ruben Loftus-Cheek were brought into the game during the second half to spice up Chelsea's attack but it was all to no avail.

Some football viewers where I watched the match opined that Chelsea missed Mason Mount in that game. I told them: "Common guys, Mason Mount wouldn't have performed any better than all these Players on the field." We've watched his performance this season and it's obvious that he's not in his best form.

The Chelsea academy graduate alongside N'Golo Kante, Christian Pulisic and Reece James did not travel with the rest of the group to Italy.

Out of all them, the one greatly missed by Chelsea against Juventus was Reece James. He picked up a knock against Manchester City in Chelsea last League game and was unable to join the Squad for the trip to Italy.

Juventus were very compacted with their defense and Chelsea isn't exactly a team that plays to break through a stubborn defense. Even if the Blues wants to play that kind of ball, there's no creativity to do that.

One tactics that could have worked perfectly against Juventus was firing crossings and long balls into their box. Chelsea were in a lot best positions to play square plays and crossings on Wednesday but the player to do that wasn't available. Reece James is the best crosser in Chelsea and if he was on the pitch, Romelo Lukaku could have had a bit luck to score 1, maybe 2 goals.
