UEFA Champions League Team Of The Week For Matchday 3

The UEFA Champions League Matchday 3 brought us many existing results: Manchester United came 2 goal behind to record 3:2 win over Atalanta with Cristiano Ronaldo scoring the winner, Antoine Griezmann scored twice but saw a red as Liverpool ran out a 3-2 winner, Real Madrid secured a 5-0 win at Shakhtar Donetsk and Manchester City defeated Club Brugge 5-1 in Belgium.

Chelsea secured a 4-0 win over Malmö FF but lost Romelu Lukaku and Timo Werner to injuries, Barcelona secured their first Champions League win of the season with 1-0 over Dynamo Kiev at Camp Nou. Bayern Munich secured a 4-0 win over Benfica, Lionel Messi and Kylian Mbappe inspired PSG to a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig, Inter-milan defeated FC Sheriff 3-1 and Ajax demolished Borrusia Dortmund 4-0.

Many players put in good performances in Matchday 3 but it is not possible to put all of them together in a lineup. However, I've managed to make my selection for the team of the week for matchday 3. Here is my UEFA Champions League team of the week for matchday 3

Thibaut Courtois (GK)

The Belgian goalkeeper wasn't made to work too hard in the game with Madrid dominating the game but he made some few saves to kept a clean sheet and help Real Madrid to a comfortable 5-0 win

Defenders: Gerard Piqué(Barcelona), Thiago Silva(Chelsea), Sebastián Coates(Sporting CP)

Gerard Piqué (CB)

Piqué scored the only goal of the match cross Jordi Alba precise cross to give Barcelona their first win of the competition this season. The former Spain international was also solid defensively, with 11 ball recoveries, 3 interceptions, 6 aerial duels won, 4 clearances and 8 duels won.

Thiago Silva(CB)

Thiago Silva started the game against Malmo after missing the Premier League match against Brentford. He put in a solid performance assisting defense partner Andreas Christensen for the opener and also completing the most passes(85) in the game. He created 3 chances, made 1 recovery, 2 interceptions, 4 aerial duels won and a clearance.

Sebastián Coates(CB)

The Uruguayan was impressive for Sporting CP as they recorded a 4-1 away win at Besiktas. He headed in the opener from Goncalo Inacio flick on form Pablo Sarabia cornerkick and restored the Portuguese side one goak lead after connecting with Paulinho flick on from Pablo Sarabia corner kick. The former Liverpool man also made 5 recoveries, 3 interceptions, 2 successful tackles, 3 ball clearances and 5 duels won.

Midfielders: Leroy Sane (Bayern Munich), Jorginho(Chelsea), Bruno Fernándes(Manchester United), Vinicius jr(Real Madrid)

Leroy Sane(RM)

The German international was at his best as Bayern Munich put in masterclass performance with three goals in the second half to defeat Benfica 4-0. The former Manchester City attacker created 4 chances in the game, he scored the opener, assisted Lewandowski for the third after Éverton had put the ball into his own net. He also scored the fourth goal of the match from Josip Stanisic pass.

Bruno Fernándes (CM)

Fernandes was impressive for Manchester United as they came from 2 goals down to record a 3-2 win over Atalanta at Old Trafford. He created 9 chances in the game and supplied the assists for both Marcus Rashford and Harry Maguire goals. He also made 6 recoveries, 2 successful tackles, won 5 fouls and won 10 duels


The Italian scored twice from the spot as Chelsea recorded a dominant 4-0 win over Malmö FF. Jorginho made 12 ball recoveries, 3 interceptions, 8 tackles attempted, and won 8 duels.

Vinicius Jr(LM)

Vinicius Jr impressive start to the new season continues with a solid outing against Shakhtar Donetsk. The young Brazilian scored 2 goals and assisted Rodrygo Goes goal after creating 5 chances. He also made 2 recoveries, attempted 2 tackles, completed 2 dribbles and win 5 duels.

Attackers: Lionel Messi (PSG), Sebastien Haller(Ajax), Mohamed Salah(Liverpool)

Lionel Messi(RW)

Lionel Messi put in his best performance for PSG since joining on a free from Barcelona in the summer after helping the Ligue 1 side come from behind to secure a 3-2 win over RB Leipzig. The Argentine scored the equalizer in the 67th from a rebound after his initial effort from Kylian Mbappe pass had been put away from Gulasci. He scored the winner with an audacious panenka from the spot after Mbappe was fouled by Simakan in the box. He completed 7 successful dribbles, 4 recoveries and won 9 duels.

Sebastien Haller(ST)

The Ivorian continues his impressive form in this season Champions League with his sixth goal in only three matches to help Ajax record a dominant 4-0 win over Borrusia Dortmund . The former West Ham forward registered 2 assists from 7 chances created. He also made 3 recoveries, completed a dribble and won 7 duels.

Mohamed Salah(LW)

Mohamed Salah hot start to the season continues with another solid performance against Atletico Madrid. The Egyptian opened the scoreline after only eight minutes of play and converted from the spot to give Liverpool a 3-2 win.
