Roland Garros third-seeded player, Rafael Nadal has started his title defence on a high note printing past Alex Popyrin in a 6-3, 6-2, 7-6 tie.
Nadal, who only won an ATP title, including Barcelona Open will be starting a chance to will his record-breaking 21st Grand Slam.
"Here, especially on clay, the matches are best-of-five, the matches are long and it's difficult to hold that kind of level for such a long time, playing with this kind of risk,” Nadal said
The 13 time Grand Slam winner has only dropped a set twice in the first round in the last 17 matches in Pari and was elated on Popyrin for having some clay skills at the French Open
'You face a player that he's decided to go for every shot, so you are in trouble. If he's having success as he did with his serve, then it's difficult to have breaks, and then you are in a tricky position.” he added.
However, the Spaniard was happy to be back on the court, earmarking the climatic conditions of the tournament and the COVID-19 which shook the world by the storm.
