One Goalkeeper, One Defender Listed Among Player of the Month Nominees For February

A close look at the 6-man shortlist for February English Premier League (EPL) Player of the month shows that four of the nominees are forwards. The list also contains one goalkeeper and one defender. Who are this outstanding players?

The only nominated shot stopper is Bernd Leno. The German goalie manned the goal for Fulham in four EPL games during the month of February. The former Arsenal goalkeeper kept three clean and made 11 saves within the period. The only goal he conceded in the process was in the February 24 clash with Wolves. The former Germany international even had a Man of the Match award within the time. The only listed defender is Emerson Aparecido Leite de Souza Júnior (aka Emerson Royal). The right wing back helped Spurs to keep clean sheets against Manchester City, West Ham and Chelsea on 5th, 19th and 26th of the month. The Brazilian defender also scored one goal within the month.

The most notable forward among the nominations is Marcus Rashford of Manchester United. The English winger had an impressive February as helped the Red Devils to leave February without losing any game (won 3, drew 1). He even had five goals to his credit within the month. The 25-year-old forward won the Man of the Match award in each and all of his EPL games in February. Kelechi Iheanacho is the first striker that made the shortlist. The Super Eagles star had five goal involvements as he helped Leicester to win two of their four games within the period. The 2014 U-17 World Cup winner also received two MotM laurels within the month.

Manor Solomon is the fifth player and the second from Fulham on the list. The 23-year-old Israeli scored one goal each in three consecutive matches for the Lilywhites in February. Interestingly, the left-winger played for short periods in each of the games. Oliver George Arthur Watkins (aka Ollie Watkins) is the the sixth player nominated for the award. Though his club, Aston Villa, lost 3 of their 4 matches within the month, the former Brentford star scored in each of the games.
