Manchester United have been left reeling after discovering that Raphael Varane will be out for 'a few weeks' due to a groin injury.
Varane was replaced 42 minutes into Sunday's UEFA Nations League Final. The bad news was verified after returning to Manchester and undergoing a scan.
Maguire could be hurried, but the encounter between Manchester United and Leicester this weekend is likely to be too soon.
Eric Bailly and Victor Lindelof will take their places. Bailly's international commitments have come to an end for the time being.
Bailly has a strong record against Leicester, having won six of eight games.
The issue for him is to stay fit and deal with the demanding schedule that comes with it. Phil Jones and Teden Mengi are both waiting behind the pair.
Although, as an emergency centre-back option, United may look to Scott McTominay or Luke Shaw.
Which games will the French centre-back miss?
With a difficult schedule ahead, this is a nightmare scenario for United, whose defence has been abysmal this season.
Varane can now recover, although he's unlikely to be seen again before the next international break.
This will most certainly keep him out of Premier League games against Liverpool, Tottenham Hotspur, and Manchester City. The forthcoming fixture list is below, and Varane is expected to make a comeback in the seventh match, away at Watford on November 20.
Manchester United’s next seven matches after the international break
- Leicester City (A) vs Manchester United (Oct 16)
- Manchester United vs Atalanta (H) (Oct 20)
- Manchester United vs Liverpool (H) (Oct 24)
- Tottenham (A) vs Manchester United (Oct 30)
- Atalanta (A) vs Manchester United (Nov 2)
- Manchester United vs Manchester United (H) (Nov 6)
- Watford (A) vs Manchester United (Nov 20)
