Why Ighalo Should Not Start Any More Games For Manchester United

Manchester United surrendered the opportunity to leapfrog Chelsea and Leicester City to third place after conceding a late goal against Southampton. Odion Jude Ighalo, is yet to start a Premier league match for the English side and having fulfilled his dream of playing for the European giants but him starting or getting more minutes depends heavily on a host of factor.

Indeed, since the game against Tottenham Hotspur on the 19th of June, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has started the same players in Premier league matches, meaning that Ighalo and others are restricted to few minute of football.

In those matches, United has dropped only 2 points - the last game against Southampton. This shows that the team is getting into shape and the inclusion of Ighalo could potentially impact the team negatively.

The recent performances of Anthony Martial in centre forwards as well the role played in by Marcus Rashford and the highly impressive Greenwood, there seem to be no hope for Ighalo in displacing anyone in the line up.

Manchester United has an FA Cup semi final match against Chelsea on Saturday. Opinion might be in his favour to start considering that the Nigerian talisman has scored in every game he has started since his loan move from China, but all that has been against sides of relatively low quality.

In addition, Ighalo was brought in as a backup striker for the likes of Martial and Rashford, so back up he should remain, this will also aid the continuous improvement of the boys who are nearing the peak of their careers.
