Football Players Who Admitted That They Played Football For The Money

It's no secret that footballers one of the most paid athletes in the world, and with such a high salary it's only logical that some players are playing football for the money and not the love of the game.

1. Alex Song:

Before his transfer to Barcelona, Alex Song admitted that his motivation for accepting their contract was very clear.

According to The Mirror, Alex said "When Barcelona offered me a contract and I saw how much I would earn, I didn't think twice. I felt my wife and children should have comfortable lives once my career is over. I knew that now I would become a millionaire." (Source: The Mirror, May 2020).

2. Gareth Bale:

Bale has been one of the best wingers in the world for close to a decade, yet he constantly finds himself sitting on the bench, Bale's agent even spoke of Bale been happy to see out his contract.

According to Goal website, Bale's agent said "it's a three-part discussion: it's us, Real Madrid and Tottenham. I very much doubt that, but if they want to put him on the bench then that's fine. If they want to put me on the bench with that salary? That's fine for me as well." (Source: Goal.com, May 2021).

3. Benoit Assou- Ekotto:

According to The Guardian, the player said "I play for the money. Football's not my passion. Everyone, when they go to a job, it's for the money. 4. Oscar:
