After consecutive losses in their first three league matches of the season, the Gunners have bounced back from what was their worst ever start to a season with two successive wins, but the Gunners are still rooted to 13th on the table and have a lot to return to Europe next season
Tottenham started the season strongly with three consecutive wins but have suffered 3-0 back-to-back losses Crystal Palace and Chelsea to drop to ninth, and they could fall behind the Gunners should they suffer defeat by two or more goals today.
Ahead of this huge encounter, I have managed to pick my Arsenal and Tottenham combined XI
Goalkeeper Hugo Lloris (Tottenham)
The experience goal has managed to keep his place in the team despite the summer arrival of Pierluigi Gollini from Atalanta. Aaron Ramsdale has shown encouraging signs since dislodging Bernd Leno has Gunners first choice goalkeeper but Lloris gets nod due to his experience in games of this magnitude.
Defenders:Takehiro Tomiyasu (Arsenal), Gabriel (Arsenal) Ben White (Arsenal), Kieran Tierney(Arsenal)
Takehiro Tomiyasu (RB)
Tomiyasu has only made two appearances in the Premier League, against Norwich City and Burnley, but he has shown great promises in the early days of his Premier career. The Japanese was dominant against Burnley with 5 recoveries, 5 clearances, 4 aerial duels won and 1 interception. Emerson Royal joined Tottenham from Barcelona in the last transfer window but does not look settled at the moment, Tomiyasu gets the mode nod ahead of tanganga and Emerson.
Ben White (CB)
The £50m buy from Brighton was poor on his debut for Arsenal but has looked solid since returning to the starting lineup. He is comfortable in possession and has the ability to progress the ball forward. He gets the nod.
Arsenal defense looks more solid since the the Brazilian returned from injury. Arsenal have now won each of the last seven league games Gabriel has started and kept five clean sheets in that time, as opposed to a win percentage of just 14% in the last seven Premier League game he has missed. Cristian Romero could have made the team but his lack of minutes has prevented his inclusion.
Kieran Tierney (LB)
Tierney is one of the first player on Arsenal's team list, the fullback work rate is second to non in the Arsenal team. Sergio Reguilón offers more going forward but Tierney is more defensive and get the nod
Midfielders: Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Tottenham), Thomas Partey (Arsenal), Martin Odegaard (Arsenal)
The Dane has been an integral part of the team since joining from Southampton last season. He finished the 2020/21 with the most pressures, tackles and tackles won in the Premier League and has also been the top performer for the team this season.
Thomas Partey (CM)
Partey hasn't justified all the hype generated during his signing from Atletico Madrid last season, with constant injuries preventing him from having a good run of games. He put in a solid performance against Burnley in the last time out anchoring the midfield and providing the shied for the back line. He gets the nod.
Martin Odegaard (AM)
The summer recruitment from Real Madrid will be tasked with the creative against their North London rival today. After a slow start the Norwegian started to justify why Arsenal acquired him in the summer, he scored Arsenal's winning goal against Burnley with a perfectly taken freekick, he gets the nod over Dele Alli
Forwards :Bukayo Saka (Arsenal) Harry Kane (Tottenham), Heung-Min Son (Tottenham)
The youngster hasn't hit top form since the busy summer representing England at the Euros. He has shown sign of improvement in recent matches and gets a nod in the team.
Kane is yet to score in the Premier League this season and there won't be a better to score his first League goal of the season than against Arsenal. The Tottenham skipper holds the record for the most goals in this fixture with 11, he gets the nod to lead the front line ahead of Aubameyang.
Heung-Min Son (LW)
The South Korea international has displayed his match winning performances this season, scoring the winning goal against Pep Guardiola Manchester City and Watford before injury struck. He made his return from injury against Chelsea but wasn't able to add to his tally. He walks into the team.
