5 Players Who Haven't Lived Up To The Expectation At Their Current Clubs

1. Jack Grealish (Manchester City)

Grealish arrived for £100 million, a British transfer record, but has yet to show Manchester City fans why they paid so much for him.

While he has done marginally better than others, his statistics aren't particularly encouraging.

This season, he was substituted after an hour against Liverpool and was unable to add a goal or an assist. He was a key figure in Villa's 7-2 demolition of Liverpool the previous season, having a hand in five of the seven goals.

2. Saul (Chelsea)

Chelsea's on loan midfielder Saul is another player who has arrived from Spain and failed to live up to his expectations.

The 26-year-old has not been able to maintain his success for Thomas Tuchel's side after helping Atletico Madrid win the league title last season.

The central midfielder has only made five appearances for the Blues so far and could be moved back to Atletico Madrid in the January transfer window, according to rumours.

3. Gianluigi Donnarumma (PSG)

Donnarumma has failed to live up to the hype since leaving AC Milan for PSG after being crowned Player of the Tournament at Euro 2020.

Donnarumma has been in and out of the starting lineup for much of the season as he competes with Keylor Navas for the number one spot.

However, when he has started, the Italian has struggled to produce dominant displays, conceding seven goals and keeping only two clean sheets in seven games.

4. Jadon Sancho (Manchester United)

Expectations were sky-high for the ex-City winger after he arrived for £73 million from Borussia Dortmund.

Sancho has become a shell of the player he was in Germany, which is unfortunate for everyone affiliated with Manchester United.

5. Lionel Messi (PSG)

The flamboyant Argentinian attacker has been a shadow of the player he was in Spain since arriving in the French city when his contract with Barcelona expired.

Injuries have dogged him so far, but given that he spent practically every minute of his final season with Barcelona, the nature of a new league is plainly something his physical state hasn't been able to handle.
