It was a thing of surprise that Chelsea and Senegalese Goalkeeper, Edouard Mendy was not included in the 30 man provisional list for the Balon D'or award. Even his fellow compatriot, Kalidou Koulibaily felt it was unfair to exclude him after he had a great year with the Blues. In this article, I have pointed out 3 reasons why Mendy Deserves to be in the Balon D'or award shortlist. Please read down.
1. Edouard Mendy has now saved 25 out of 26 (96.1%) non-penalty shots he's faced in the Premier League this season – among 17 GKs with 5+ EPL apps in 2021/22, no one else saved more than 83% of all non-penalty shots.
2. Mendy is the first African Goalkeeper to win the UEFA Champions League and the UEFA Men's Goalkeeper of the Year award. He is also the first to win these awards in the same year.
3. Mendy has more Cleansheets than Chelsea's second choice Goalkeeper, Kepa Arrizabalaga and he has conceded fewer goals than the Spaniard since he arrived at Chelsea.
