English premier league giant, Chelsea FC goalkeeper Edouard Mendy has been phenomenal for the Blues since his arrival at the club in the last year summer transfer window under then manager, Frank Lampard.
The 29 years old Senegalese goalkeeper joined Chelsea from Stade de Rennes in France and ever since making his debut, he has established himself as the preferred number one choice of goalkeeper ahead of Spaniard Kepa Arrizabalaga.
Edouard Mendy in his first season at the club did a great job both at the domestic top-flight league and European competitions where he was able to make name for himself among top shot stoppers across Europe's top five leagues.
In the last season, Edouard Mendy played key and significant roles in his team's success in the UEFA champions league where they emerged winner in the Porto's all-English mouthwatering finals against Pep Guardiola's Manchester City team.
In the competition, Mendy recorded the highest number of clean sheets with grand style as he set the record for the most kept in the competition's history by a goalkeeper in his debut season.
His grade influx of delivery made him to also become the first African goalkeeper in history to win the most coveted UEFA Champions League trophy.
The prolific shot stopper picked up his form from where he left off in the last season having been exceptional so far at the goal post this season across all competitions keeping a good number of saves.
Currently, the Chelsea's goalkeeper has the best save percentage in Europe's top five leagues before the international break leading the chart with 95% thereby been ahead the likes of Arsenal's Aaron Ramsdale, OGC NICE's Walter Benitez, Napoli's David Ospina and Wolverhampton wanderer's Jose SA in the top five order.
Edouard Mendy also in the current international break played major roles for Senegal to become the first country to qualify for the African knockout stage in the 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.
All these joined together are undoubtedly enough for the UEFA Best shot stopper of the year to earn a spot in the top 30 nominations list for the Balloon d'or.
This has been generating a lot of reactions ever since the list was released till date as many sees the snub as not right and been bias.
With Edouard Mendy missing out on the Ballon d'or list, it is then a clear indication that goalkeepers need a separate Ballon d'or from the rest of the players because at this rate they stand no chance of winning the award as people only care about the number of goals and assists and they never care about the saves.
