The UEFA Champions League have been on hold since the month of March due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. But despite the Pandemic, the UEFA Champions League campaign have been set to be completed in the month of August behind closed doors.
Prior to the lockdown in March, half of the last 16 ties had produced winners waiting for the next half to play on the 7th and 8th of August.
The teams to have progressed to the quarter finals include PSG, Atalanta, Atletico Madrid and Leipzig. While the remaining round of 16 fixtures which include, Juventus Vs Lyon, Barcelona Vs Napoli, Manchester city Vs Real Madrid and Bayern Munich Vs Chelsea are set to round up on 8th of August.
Liverpool won the last season UEFA Champions League trophy beating Tottenham Hotspur 2 - 0 at the Wanda Metropolitano stadium Madrid.
But who is the favourite this season?
Below are the top 5 teams backed to win the UCL trophy this season;
5. Paris Saint Germain
Despite winning only their domestic titles this season, PSG have been really impressive in the European competition this season after appearing as the group leader in the group stage of the competition beating Real Madrid 3-0 and Galatasaray 5 - 0.
Moreover , they were able to eliminate Borussia Dortmund in the quarter finals of the campaign.
You can not be listing the Championships league title contenders without mentioning Barcelona, due to their consistency in the competition for the last decade they are highly backed to challenge for the title.
The Catalan giants had reached the semi finals 5 times in succession including last season 3 - 0 loss to Liverpool.
With the club's current squad and experience in the competition, they might make the title their own.
With the addition of Cristiano Ronaldo to their squad, Juventus have been superb this season both domestically and internationally.
The Portuguese forward's contributions to the team can be enough to have the club their 39th Serie A titles.
Moreover, with Ronaldo aiming to win the UCL trophy in 3 different clubs, Juventus lifting the cup might be a reality.
2. Manchester city
Manchester city is likely to win the UCL trophy this season as they plan to add european glory to their domestic success especially after their two years of no champions League football was lifted by FIFA few days ago.
Although the English premier League side have won the last English premier League titles in each of the last two seasons but have failed to progress to the semi finals of the UEFA Champions League in any of the previous 3 encounters. After beating Real Madrid 2-1 in the 1st leg of the UCL campaign and considering their present squad, I think city will fight with their last breath to secure the UCL trophy for the first time in history.
1. Bayern Munich
After securing the UCL titles six (6) times, Bayern Munich would be looking forward to add their 7th.
The German Champions have been extremely consistent this season both domestically and internationally. After thrashing the spurs on a 10 - 3 aggregate and beating Chelsea 3 - 0 at Stamford bridge, Bayern Munich is unarguably heading to their 7th UCL title considering the attacking threat of Leroy Sane, Roberto Lewandoski and Serge Gnabry.
