Chelsea defeated Aston Villa last night to reach the round of 16 in the Carabao cup. The blues were held to a 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge, taking the match to a penalty shootout which Thomas Tuchel's side won.
Timo Werner who was in the starting lineup did not take part in the penalty shootout and he has come out to state his reasons.
According to the German, the injury he picked up at the course of the match was the reason why he didn't take a penalty last night.
In a statement, Werner said: "I had some pain in my calf but with only three substitutes, I couldn't go off, but when you have fit players on the pitch, it's better they shoot than me.
