[OPINION]: Two Reasons Why Arsenal Should Not Try To Sign Nigerian Striker Victor Osimhen In January

It is obvious that Arsenal needs a centre forward as quickly as possible. The Gunners' struggle for goals last season has continued into the new Premier League campaign.

After three consecutive losses to Brentford FC, Chelsea and Manchester City at the start of the season, the Gunners were able to grab slim 1-0 victories over Norwich City and Burnley FC before a blitzing performance against Tottenham Hotspur which ended in a 3-1 victory.

Old problems reared their head again last weekend as the Gunners played against Brighton and Hove Albion at the Falmer Stadium. Arsenal's lack of a potent centre-forward allowed Brighton to keep the pressure on Arsenal's backline for the majority of the match.

Pierre Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette have too many flaws in their game to lead the attack in Mikel Arteta's tactical set-up. Pierre Emerick Aubameyang is a world-class finisher with a very average build-up ability due to his limited footwork while Alexandre Lacazette is an excellent build-up player with a lack of height, pace and elite finishing.

This lead to rumours of Arsenal's interest in signing Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen from Italian club SSC Napoli. The Nigerian striker is currently one of the best young strikers in the world.

But I think Arsenal should not try to sign the Nigerian striker in January and here are two reasons why.

1. Changing teams and countries in the January transfer window could become very difficult for a player especially one as young as Victor Osimhen. This is because he would have less time to get to know his teammates and adjust to the new playing style.

If Arsenal make a move for Victor Osimhen and he doesn't adapt quickly enough, it would increase the pressure on him which could damage his confidence.

2. Having signed six new players during the recently concluded summer transfer window, adding another new player in January could cause a teamwork problem. The new players should be properly gelled in the team first before another player in a position that is so delicate (striker) is added to the team.

For the reasons stated above, I think Arsenal should not try to sign Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen in January.
