Six Controversial VAR & Referee Decisions In Uefa Champions League So Far This Season

The video assistant referee has taken a lot Controversial decisions that affected the performances of teams in the 2021/22 Uefa Champions League season. Managers and fans are not happy with the technology because of its poor decisions against teams.

The technology was introduced to assist the referee in making the right decision during matches, but the main reason why it was invented has not been achieved because of the series of Controversial decisions taking by the technology.

Since the beginning of the 2021/22 Uefa Champions League season, the technology has taken a lot of decisions which did not favour teams. Out of the numerous decisions taken by VAR, these six are the most controversial once.

1. Atletico Madrid Vs Liverpool

The first goal scored by Atletico Madrid against Liverpool was supposed to be cancelled for an offside. Lemar was clearly in an offside when he obstructed the Liverpool's defender from saving the ball.

2. Juventus Vs Chelsea

The blues lost the match because of VAR Controversial decision against them. Juventus defender used his hands to divert the direction of a ball inside the 18 yard box. The VAR called the attention of the center referee, after several checks, no Penalty was given.

3. Young Boys Vs Manchester United

The red card given to Wan Bissaka was supposed to be reversed. The center referee took the decision without consulting the video assistant referee for a review.

4. Atletico Madrid Vs Liverpool

The center referee overturned a penalty given to Atletico Madrid after watching the VAR screen. Diogo Jota pushed the Atletico Madrid player down inside the 18 yard box, but the technology decided not to award the penalty.

5. Paris Saint Germain Vs Manchester City

Kevin De Bruyne was given a red card for a serious foul challenge against Gana Gueye. He clearly lunged a dangerous tackle which would have broken the player's leg, but the center referee ended up giving him a yellow card.

6. Atletico Madrid Vs Liverpool

Antoine Griezmann was supposed to be given a yellow card for a foul challenge against Firmino. A yellow card was issued to the players who committed similar offense during a match.
