Barcelona sanctioned many deals at the eleventh hour, which saw some star players departing to other clubs, notable among them Antoine Griezman to his former club Atletico Madrid, Ilaix Mariba to Leipzig, and Emerson Royal to Tottenham Hotspur, some young players also returned to Barcelona's B team to continue their careers. However, if Barcelona had made such an effort to retain Lionel Messi, it could have scaled through. Here are the 2 reasons that show Barcelona was not committed to retaining Lionel Messi.

1. Barcelona's inability to find a club for redundant players: Barcelona is supposed to sell out players like Samuel Ummtiti, Philippe Coutinho, Pjanic, and another injury-prone player who is on a big salary long before La Liga financial regulations prevent them from re-registered Messi.
2. Barcelona's inability to implement a pay cut policy: knowing the importance of Lionel Messi to the club, one will expect Barcelona to impose pay cuts on players that are on big salaries to enable them to beat the La Liga financial limitations.
