Kepa Truly Deserves The Captain Armband That Kovavic Handed To Him Against Leeds

Chelsea's Premier League game against Leeds United on Saturday ended with Kepa Arrizabalaga as the Captain of the West London club.

Apart from fielding a strong squad that can win the game against Leeds United on Saturday and save his job, Graham Potter also had to make the decision over who will Captain the team against their visitors.

The club's Captain Cesar Azpilicueta was unavailable because he's still recovering from a concussion while N'Golo Kante, Thiago Silva, Mason Mount and Reece James all missed the game over injury concerns.

Many Chelsea Fans suggested that Raheem Sterling should wear the Captain armband because of his years of experience at senior level. Some suggested that Kalidou Koulibaly should wear it since he was the Captain at Napoli before Chelsea signed him last summer. Some even joked that Kai Havertz should be given the leadership role against Leeds United.

However, none of these Players deserve the Captain armband more than Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Spanish National has endured his fair share of criticisms in the past because of his horrible performance but, he has been able to redeem himself in the absence of Edouard Mendy.

Kepa Arrizabalaga lost his place in Chelsea's starting lineup to Edouard Mendy under Thomas Tuchel but, the Spanish Goalkeeper didn't complain or cause any trouble. He just waited for his time and when Graham Potter offered him the chance, he took it and made it his own.

He didn't Start the game against Leeds United as Captain because Mateo Kovavic led the Club but after the Croatian Midfielder left the pitch for Carney Chukwuemeka in the second half, he handed the armband to Kepa Arrizabalaga, despite the presence of Ben Chilwell and Kalidou Koulibaly on the pitch.
