Steve Bruce Sacked By Newcastle Following Takeover

Newcastle have sacked manager Steve Bruce following the club’s takeover by the Saudi Arabia Public Investment Fund.

PiF along with Amanda Staveley and Mehrdad Ghodoussi purchased the Magpies from Mike Ashley earlier this month.

And one of their first acts as new owner has been to relieve Bruce of his duties.

The former Sunderland Wigan man has been in charge at St James Park since July 2019 but has largely been an unpopular figure amongst the fan base.

His last match in charge of the club was Sunday’s 3-2 defeat to Tottenham – which was also his 1000th game as a top flight manager.

As per an official statement, Graeme Jones will lead the team on an interim basis, starting with Saturday’s trip to Crystal Palace.

He will be supported by the coaching team of Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence, Ben Dawson and Simon Smith.
