Chelsea And Bayern Munich Book Places In UCL Quarter-Finals
Chelsea advanced to the quarter-final of the UEFA Champions League (UCL) following a 2-0 second-leg victory over ten-man Atletico Madrid at Stamford Bridge on Wednesday.
Hakim Ziyech’s first-half strike and Emerson Palmieri’s injury-time goal helped the Blues complete the double over Atletico who lost by a lone goal in the first leg played in Spain.
In the other match of the night, Bayern Munich, the UCL champions, also sealed passage to the quarter-finals with a 2-1 win over Lazio. Robert Lewandowski’s 33rd-minute penalty and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting’s strikes added to the German treble winners’ four goals from the first leg.
Christian Association Speaks
The Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) says only adequate resources will tackle challenges of insecurity, widespread poverty and hunger in the country.
The South West Zone of the Christian body said this in a communique issued at the end of a 2-day first quarterly meeting held at the Pope John Paul 11 Pastoral Centre, Ado-Ekiti, Ekiti State capital, on Wednesday.
The communique was signed by Rev. Fr. Raphael Osegboun and Rev. Luke Bamigboye, the Zonal Chairman and Secretary, respectively.
Buhari Speaks On Criminal Activities
Muhammadu Buhari has said his regime has discovered that criminals have infiltrated the mining industry in the country.
Buhari said this on Tuesday while declaring open the 56th annual international conference and exhibition of the Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society held at the International Conference Centre, University of ibadan.
The President said since most mining activities were taking place in remote places, it was easy for criminals to infiltrate the mining industry.
Another President Dies Of Heart Attack
President John Pombe Magufuli has died, aged 61.
The news was confirmed by the Vice President Samia Suluhu Hassan in a televised statement.
She said that Mr Magufuli died on Wednesday at 6p.m. from heart complications, at a hospital in Dar es Salaam.
The two week absence of the president from public functions had ignited speculations across social media, though local media had reported last week Mr. Magufuli had been admitted in the hospital.
