The match is more than just a game to both sets of fans. It is more of a game of pride, bragging rights and prestige which makes it a hotly contested encounter between both teams.
Arsenal had its best game of the current Premier League season last weekend in the North London Derby. Having lost the first three games of the season to Brentford FC, Chelsea and Manchester City, the Gunners needed a big performance and they did just that.
All the Arsenal players gave huge performances and at the forefront of this was Arsenal's defensive summer signing Takehiro Tomiyasu. The Japanese full-back was signed from Bologna FC for 17 million pounds and he did a great job of silencing Tottenham Hotspur winger Son Heung-Min for the majority of the game.
It is no surprise that Son Heung-Min is one of the most difficult wingers to play against in the Premier League due to the outstanding performances he has produced for several years.
The performance from Takehiro Tomiyasu was reminiscent of the days when French defender Bacary Sagna marshalled Arsenal's right side of the defence. It was common to see Sagna keep dangerous wingers quiet due to his excellent defending abilities.
Bacary Sagna is considered one of Arsenal's best defenders of the Emirates era and Takehiro Tomiyasu's defensive performance in the North London Derby was a great emulation of Sagna.
Bacary Sagna usually played with a dominant style both aerially and on the ground. This is the same way Takehiro Tomiyasu played against Son Heung-Min as he did not allow the Tottenham winger any space to showcase his talent.
Even the goal Son Heung-Min scored was because the Arsenal defence switched off thinking the referee would stop play for an injury to Granit Xhaka. Takehiro Tomiyasu is emulating Bacary Sagna and the fans would be hoping it continues that way.
