The Nigerian international was handed a role to play in his team's starting XI following his incredible performance for the club in their previous game before the international break and he was able to impress.
The former Liverpool star was superb in the game as he scored the opening goal of the day which was instrumental in his team's two goals to one scoreline at full time.
The first half of the game was such a balanced one as there was nothing to separate the two sides going into the half time break which ended goalless draw.
The tempo of the game got heated up in the second half as they both put up some physical, tactical and technical displays with Taiwo Awoniyi breaking the deadlock in the 49th minute to put the host ahead to make it one nil.
After several attempts from both sides to add more to the tally, all proved abortive until the 83rd minute when Sheraldo Becker was able to double the lead for the host to make it two goals to one at full time
The win for Union Berlin has now taken them to the 5th spot on the table with 15 points in 8 games played and as such be hoping to keep the winning streaks going in their next fixture, so as to continue their pursuit in the competition having been separated with just three points from Borussia Dortmund who sit top of the table with 18 points with the same number of games played.
Taiwo Awoniyi will now be looking forward to continuing his goal scoring form for the Urs Fischer's side in their next game to keep helping the team.
